TOMORROWLAND SHANGHAI DISNEY
The Tomorrowland design team was tasked with creating an armature for Disney storytelling that was appropriate and responsive to Shanghai’s challenging and varied environmental conditions.
The landscape serves as a giant sponge, moving all the storm water into a series of fountains and wetlands. The Technogardens are a mix of local and exotic plant communities creating a series of botanical experiences. The plaza features locally sourced granite, cut into broad swooping gestures that tie together the whole land. A variety of shade elements create moments of respite from the strong Shanghai sun including a system of curving, cantilevered trellises, tight allees of shade trees and ETFE clad canopies.
