SHRINERS MEDICAL CAMPUS

Shriners Hospital for Children was designed as a multi-level landscape for healing, reflecting, and gathering.

Each of the three outdoor areas is inspired by a different ecological and cultural aspect of the Pasadena region, including the grasslands of the San Gabriel foothills, verdant farmland, and annual Rose Parade. Intimate strolling gardens with lush, drought tolerant planting, a sculptural fountain, and large-scale gathering area offer a variety of flexible spaces to accommodate the needs of the medical center. Meandering paths, stairs, and ramps allow young patients to exercise and traverse a variety of terrain as they heal, enjoying the movement of native grasses and sounds of local birds in the sycamore trees overhead.
